Exclamation Ive got an engine question

ive got a 2000 jeep cherokee limited and was wandering what would be the best diesel engine for it without too much modification.

I think you're going to have to perform major surgery to put any kind of diesel engine into a 2000 XJ. My recommendation would some kind of a small 4 or 6 cylinder turbo diesel, if you're dead set on doing the swap.

i was thinking of a cummins 4bt a friend of mine works with those alot and said it should bolt up with out too much work.

Euro XJ's come with a "VM", 4 pot 2.5 litre TD as an option. Dunno if you can get the engines, over there in the States, but it would make Jeep specific parts pretty easy to source, I would have thought.

Overseas we have VM 2.5 4cil turbo (110hp) in the XJs and VM 3.1 5cil turbo (140hp) in the ZJ-WJs.
The JKs have a nice VM 2.8 turbo common rail (177hp) with a variable geometry turbo.
All of them fit to the AW4 tranny (borg-warner standard).

You can find them also in the states. You would be impressed how many vehicles mount those engines.
