Very cheap filter with a bad valve. On one of Jeeps I run amsoil with amsoil filter and and one the other one I run Vavoline and a motorcraft filter. I also run an oversize oil filter. Running an oversize filter is a good thing because it allows you to add 1/2 to 3/4 more oil to the engine. Also the increased filter capacity. Here is a list of part numbers that will fix a 93 or newer 4.0. (only works with horizontally mounted filters)
AC Delco PF2
Fram PH8A
K&N Gold HP3001
Mobile 1 M1-301
Motorcraft FL1A
Napa Gold 1515
Wix 51515

Very cheap and EZ upgrade to all

Yes go with an oversized filter it is a free upgrade since they cost the same as the stock size.

Quote: I know the first thing I am going to is change the oil and filter. That will be this weekend after we thaw out from the ice.

What other things do I need to check or change? Do I seafoam? Do I go ahead and get new plugs, if so what kind do you suggest. These are things that I would do with out being told, but I want to make sure I don't overlook anything.

You know all the little things that most people don't think of doing.

By the way, it's a 93 sport, 4.0 auto. with 212k miles.

I'll take any suggestions, I want to get all of this, along with a few other little things done, before I start doing any major modifications. I am going to be using this as a daily driver.

Thanks,
John
Hey John, welcome to CF! I'm new here also, however not new to Jeeps or truck/car maintenance. Before you attempt to perform any service on your vehicle, I would suggest that you obtain the correct service manual for your vehicle. The best one would probably be an FSM (factory service manual) but they are expensive unless you can find one on craigslist or ebay. Haynes or Chilton’s are more reasonably priced for the do-it-yourselfer and contain plenty of information. Good luck with your new baby.

Thanks guys for the info. I knew you all would come up with some good stuff for me to work on this weekend. It's going to be in the 60's this weekend . Typical Arkansas weather, freezing rain on Monday and Tuesday and 60 on Saturyday. Got to love it.

Brng300, To answer your question about your heater blower. When your blower motor goes inop. except for the high setting, it is usually the heater blower resistor bad that causes that.

X2 ^^^.
My Ford Focus (I know I know I know) had the exact problem you are describing and a $10 resistor was all I needed. I don't want to get too cocky here, but I imagine you'll be blowing all ways in no time.

I recently changed my oil in my 87 cherokee and used a fram filter. My Jeep also has an Amsoil oil bypass filter on it. It is a vertical mount filter.Should I change that out to something else? Engine has about 156k on it.
