Question I've bought my xj, now what?

I know the first thing I am going to is change the oil and filter. That will be this weekend after we thaw out from the ice.

What other things do I need to check or change? Do I seafoam? Do I go ahead and get new plugs, if so what kind do you suggest. These are things that I would do with out being told, but I want to make sure I don't overlook anything.

You know all the little things that most people don't think of doing.

By the way, it's a 93 sport, 4.0 auto. with 212k miles.

I'll take any suggestions, I want to get all of this, along with a few other little things done, before I start doing any major modifications. I am going to be using this as a daily driver.

Thanks,
John

if you are going to seafoam, do that first, then change the oil, then the plugs. Seafoam will get crap on the plugs and in the oil.

For plugs-champion or autolites
for oil dont go with a FRAM filter
Change all the fuilds
Seaform the intake and gas only dont do the oil or tranny
Go ahead with a new airfilter, plug wires if in the budget, dist. cap and compents if in the budget, radator fuild, t-stat they are cheap and it's a good why to know its a good working one, and battery if it looks old and worn(to be sure you dont get left on the side of the road.

Some pointers off the top of my head...

Check the antifreeze color, level and freeze-boil points. I bought a '92 and ended up flushing the system for 2 weeks since the previous owner didn't drain/fill at all. Ever.

Check your motor mount bolts in the engine for looseness/breaking!! Search the forums here, NAXJA.org or jeepforum.com for more info.

Be prepared to spend a little $$ to get it in tip-top shape.

Use standard Champion Copper Plus plugs. No platinum or high $ crap for the 4.0. It's an old-technology engine that will last forever if properly maintained.

Use a "High Milage" oil as it has higher amounts of ZDDP for our cams.

Sylvania X-Tra Vision headlights properly aimed are great!

Catch as much rust as you can NOW by grinding it out and painting until you get around to fixing it later. Any prevention NOW is the best.

Give the interior a good cleaning. It REALLY helps an old vehicle look nice. Get all the dust and such cleaned up. Fix any burned out bulbs.

Seafoam is a great cleaner. with 212k it is too good of a cleaner. after using seafoam in my 211k motor i started leaking and burning more oil. the seafoam cleaned all of the built up sludge that was preventing the leaks. But it cleans like no other product i have used!

Change the oil and filter, Grease the chassis, Check fluids in gear boxes and axles, Do a complete tune-up to include cap, rotor, plugs filters, fuel system cleaner, fix any leaks to include oil and coolant. Check condition of coolant I.E. color and proper ratio of anti-freeze. Check the brakes. Check for worn bushings and loose or worn U-joints. The list of things to do to a newly bought used rig goes on forever. I'm sure I missed a few important ones but, this will get you started. Welcomr to CF from washington state. Post a few pics of your new XJ.

Thanks again for the quick reply. Somthing else I need to look into is my fan switch on my heat and air. I have high speed and that is all. Is it the switch or something else easy to fix.

As requested pics

I've posted it before, but this is the list of preventative maintenance that I came up with after scouring this forum. It is pretty complete, but I wouldn't say exhaustive. Also, if you're good at reading plugs, I'd suggest you pull those before you seafoam.
