Well its sad to say but My '97 automatic Sports transmission is leaking somewhere. Its down to add or not even on the stick sometimes after 3 weeks. Ive believe its my rear main for the fact a dealer i used to work at detailing (wish i still did) checked it out for me and even told me the seal is leaking minor amounts (back in January <??). I imagine id buy the seal kit at the dealer, but that brings me to this...

I'm only 17 going on 18 in Oct. , I don't have the tools but i do have a job and some friends that our mechanically inclined. When i buy the seal, I've read of double 'sided' seals that would be good if there are any grooves. Should i just pick up one with 2 sides even if no grooves are noticeable. Or should i just let the dealer take 550 from me and call it a day? Ive read the write ups and bookmarked them. I just want some opinions.

Shop around for other pricing. Even parts and labour (give it an hour) to do the rear seal shouldn't top much over $100. What else are they proposing to do for the $550?
