Default Issue's Somewhere?

Hello, I new to being a Jeep owner. I have owned 3 ZR2's (2 Trucks & 1 Blazer).

Currently I have a 1996 XJ Sport, 4.0L. It runs great idling in the driveway in park, put under pressure from the tranny, it seems to hesitate and stumble, and also pops when trying to accelerate. I can left off the gas, and then punch it, and it runs great. But then the problem returns, and I can stumble back home sputtering hoping I can make it that next block.

Of course I took it to the mechanic, and guess what? It ran fine, and the mechanic looked at me like I was a idiot.

What could be the culprit causing the problems?

I had some trouble a bit like that. My wiring going down over the manifold near the PS pump was grounding on the heat shield. You might go over the wiring there under the hood, check for rubbing/chaffing. Unplug/replug & clean connectors.

Pretty simple fix, after I tracked it down, a bad O2 Sensors. Run's like a champ now.

THANKS! Very glad you posted back. The wires I referred to going down by the PS pump, some go to the O2 sensor, and I had very similar symptoms. Glad you got it and thanks again.

(now I want to go out and ground my O2 wire and see if it does the same!)
