Anybody have any ideas about intermittent back up lights?
I hear ya, "Don't back up!" I've inspected the bulbs and cleaned the sockets, but the lights only work occassionally.

NSS, neutral safety switch. On a Cherokee it also controls the reverse lights. They can become dirty and the contacts can corrode causing the reverse lights to fail and also the Jeep not to start.

You all are awesome! Wish me some luck so that I don't break it. Especially since it costs $238 at AutoZone. I'll be in touch!

In case yours does need replacing, I shopped around for the neutral safety switch, got a lot of quotes $200 and up too, but found one online ( http://www.thepartsbin.com/sitemap/j...tch~parts.html )for $40. It works perfectly, is a direct fit replacement and I was able to easily change it out myself. Like my dad advised me, don't force anything– it's a fairly delicate part and put some clean cardboard down when you take your current one apart to catch any parts that fall out!
