intermitent failure to start
I have a 89 XJ that wont start at times. I leave for work at 4am. Three times now my jeep has failed to start. Each time it does the same thing. I turn the key and it does not turn over. I can here the fuel pump running. I have tried shifting into neutral with no change. When I get home from work about 5pm it will crank right up. There has been 5 to 8 days between times it wont start. Any help with this . Thanks John in East Texas

Try reaching over to the shifter with your left hand. While holding the key turned to start with your right, jiggle the shifter. Try it in both park and neutral. Mine would work cold, or hot, but in between something was sticky in the neutral safety switch.
Try looking at your battery on my 88 same thing the posts seams no to make good contact ,lights grip pump will come on but no crank not even a click ,try cleaning your cables .
