Hope this isn’t a stupid question. Trying to find out the exact Jeep Cherokee Classic XJ official desc
ription of the original stock color of my interior header, sun visor, etc cloth material. I’m trying to replace some sun visors that have burn holes. Whether from ebay or other places, I see various color descriptions such as light grey, tan, etc. etc. I THINK mine is “grey”. Is there anywhere on the Jeep or a place where I can input my VIN # to determine what Jeep called my interior color? Anyone have a clue to determining this?
I recently replaced the headliner material on my 98. I had the same problem. I ordered some samples from stockinteriors. There are several shades of grey (fewer than 50). The numbers will match other material providers. I was going to order from stockinteriors since they sent samples, but then I saw the shipping prices. I ended up using headliner magic. They sell through amazon, but limited color codes. I ended up going through their direct website to get the color code I needed. BleepinJeep has a great video on replacing the visor material. I replaced my headliner, but the visors were good so I didn't touch those. Headliner magic material is a little different and not as cloth like, but the color seems spot on.
Thanks. I really hope to find a pair of original used visors and have a supplier on ebay motors looking for a matching pair in great shape. He thinks it’s the Cherokee grey. Just seeing if there is a way to verify. Hopefully find a pair that can be cleaned to look as new as possible. I’ll look up that Bleeping Jeep video, though. He’s one of the better YouTube channels. If I go that way, I should be able to get some extra headliner material from the guys who did mine last year. It’s a great match to the original color.
For me, this 2001 is an ongoing project to bring back to original shape. Had bought this Cherokee for my son years back. He didn’t appreciate it and now it’s mine and having fun working on it. Eventually plan on tearing out the original carpet ( cigarette burn places again ). 😡
Carpet replacement isn't bad at all. There are plenty of threads on it. I took out the carpet on my 98 intending to replace it. Once I got it out, I tried cleaning/pressure washing and it looked really nice. You have a different problem if you have burns. Took me about 1.5 hours the first time, but I'm sure I could do it quicker a second time.I did end up cutting a slit in the back to get it out around the rear seat belt anchors. Those things were causing me a lot of pain. It's under the rear seat so not a big deal and not visible.I also deep cleaned all of the trim pieces while I had them out. The trim cleaned up really well with a steam cleaner.
I searched and watched that video. Very doable. Thanks for pointing it out! Would lose a couple of the warning stickers but unless I find a really really nice pair of replacement visors, this is the way to go! Hopefully the headliner repair guys will have the matching material and sell me some.
Good to hear about the carpet. Have some really nice set of Quadratec floor mats covering things right now. Highly recommend those btw. Just as good as WeatherTek and much cheaper.

I was thinking Mist Gray, but it looks a bit too bright. Could just be the lighting. Check the driver side door tag. Look for TRM just below the barcode. That is the interior color code. My 97 has M5C3 (Mist Gray, which also goes by RC3). The same code is also found on the metal VIN tag next to the left hood hinge. I have seen the interior color written on the back of the glovebox as well, but not always. There are also labels on the backside of the door panels, but the print tends to self destruct over time, and also likes to rubs right off at the slightest touch.

I’ll check that out! Thought there must be something like this somewhere.
To the best of my knowledge if you own a '01 with the gray interior it is called Agate. Now as far as the headliner and visor fabric goes I can only assume that it applies to that too. But....
Couple things.
I have a guy. He did my dome light headliner in my '00. Did not do my visors. Well I don't know what color he used, mine is the Camel by the way, but far as I was concerned it matched the existing visors good enough for me.
If you are doing both the headliner and the visors IMO anything that is close that you can live with will be fine. Cause now all the fabric will match. It kind of stands on its own.
When I swapped over to a overhead console I had him do the overhead console headliner and the 2 visors. But there was a reason for that. The parts for the overhead console I got from a '99.
The wiring is a little different. And while I probably could have made my '00 visors work it was easier to just use the '99 ones.
Which brings me to this.
If you are going to find visors on Ebay. If you have an '01 you will want them to be only from an '00 or '01.
'97 and '98 are technically Mist Gray. Now you would not think that it would matter if you are recovering them but it does.
For 2 reasons. One the vanity mirror. The plastic would be Mist Gray and not Agate.
Also wiring is different.
Now mirrors from a '99 would be Agate but the wiring is still different. Would not plug and play into a '01 dome light harness.
'99 visors, and I am guessing '97 and '98 are the same, have one wire for power and an internal ground.
'00, and I am ssuming '01 is the same, have a 2 wire set up. Power and an external ground.
Lots of guys always selling visors on Ebay. Saying they will fit '97 to '01.
While they will screw in that is not entirely true. Differences in the colors and wiring as I described above.
can you you double check that link? Need a link where it lands on page where VIN number can be input. This seems to take you to a place AFTER VIN number has already been input.
That works! Unfortunately I see nothing here about interior colors. Optional Equipment mentions “Agate” but not sure what that refers to.
Thanks!
Agate refers to the interior color, but your pic is way too light to be Agate. Did you find the color code in the locations i posted? An example for Agate would be MLAZ.
