I just got my exhaust manifold welded, and am ready to put everything back together. Removed my intake manifold and noticed the inside was black. I cleaned what I could, but was unable to get back very far. This is what it looked like:





Is it normal for it to be that dirty? Anything I should be worried about, or should I leave it as it is?

 

Thats normal, take some brake cleaner with a brass tooth brush, and clean it out. It cant hurt anything.

 

I used some brake cleaner, and a wire brush but couldn't reach back very far. That's what i figured, but was just making sure. Thanks for the help.

 

could try filling a tote with enough kerosene/diesel to cover the manifold and letting it sit overnight or longer.
