Default Intake Manifold Cracked - Casting Issue?

Hey all, had an interesting issue pop up this weekend. Upon removing the the first bolt holding the IM to the head, the corner of the casting just fell off. See attached photo.

Is this an issue with an over-tightened bolt? A bad casting? Temperature related?

Looks like a case of over-tightening to me, the intake is only aluminum and those bolts are only supposed to be torqued to like 23-25 ft-lbs. It's also possible that your intake isn't sitting right on the two studs and then when the bolts were tightened down it cracked it.

It looks like a chunk of your exhaust manifold is missing too.

Anyone use the Dorman OEM replacement intake manifold?

Taking a couple hours off work to pull a junkyard IM will offset the cost of a new unit, and not having to clean out carbon buildup will be nice too.

I haven't heard of anyone using one, but I wouldn't be worried about ordering one. Dorman makes pretty good replacement parts, I've used their parts plenty of times without issue. That price isn't too bad either, used ones usually go for $25-75 depending, so to get a new one for like $120 is sweet.

Grab a new Fel-Pro gasket while your in there.

Yeah, $113 to my door via Amazon prime. Not bad in my mind.

I've got the Felpro gasket already. Need to pick up doughnut gaskets for the exhaust manifolds and new hardware for the precat flanges. And get the new head and cooling system back on....
