So, when I carfaxed my XJ before I bought it, the report showed an open recall for a dust shield over the exhaust/intake manifolds. It states that debris can collect there and start a fire. So, today I looked on the intake manifold, and sure enough there was a TON of debris in there. All of the debris was nice and CHARRED...I had to put on my firefighting gloves (because I just got done driving) so I wouldn't burn myself...yeah so much for that...I just got a hose and sprayed it off. Needless to say, Monday I will be at the local Jeep dealership getting this fixed for free because this is an indefinite recall, meaning there is no time frame because it is a safety recall. If you XJ owners, from 97-01, don't have this shield installed, I would advise searching on google for the link to run your VIN and see if your XJ qualifies for this repair. Be safe everyone!
