Recently had to take off the intake/exhaust to repair freeze plug. Put on a new gasket, but didn't use any RTV. I know there are several schools of thought on this one, but wanted to get scoop from Jeepsters that are long in the tooth.

Thanks!

I'm currently putting mine back together and I wouldn't use it for the fact that the intake and exhaust are one gasket and I don't think the rtv will stand up to the kind of heat produced through the exhaust at the head.

RTV is not needed nor advised. I did however use sensor safe RTV to revive my original valve cover gasket after installing my new head. Worked great and saved a lot of cash. Cleaned original gasket well and gave it a thin smear. With RTV, less is more!

Thanks guys....I was thinking I did not want to use RTV but wanted to make sure. I don't want to have to pull it off twice! Although, I still hear a leak and get some back fire, which I think is a combination of two things. The exhaust has leak...didn't see it when I had it off, and the o2 sensor appears to be bad. SOOO, I guess I will take it all off again and repair the exhaust manifold.

Those exhaust manifolds crack easily...he'd to weld mine in a couple spots on the primarys.

When I did my swap, I used Copper spray on gasket stuff. Permatex I think.
