Insturment panel ? last one tonite!!! promise :)
Occasionally the gauges on my insturment panel just seem to die....speedo/tach/ everything....even the temp gauge will freeze, and the airbag light is just glowin red as a beet...then outta the blue, everybody is working just fine again..anybody ever deal with a quirky lil issue like this????
Greenie is only 1 month old 2 me, so I'm still learning about her good nad bad habits.

2 things to look at.
#1 When it happens agan, try turning the IGN switch back slightly. This happened on my heep. Ended up replacing the key cylinder.
#2 pull the gauge cluster out, disconnect the harnes, clean with contact cleaner, reassemble.

Frank just beat me to the punch. He has told you the two most common fixes for those symptoms. Try them both and if you still have a problem then post up.

I am betting its the connector on the back... Mine quit working for a couple of months and then out of no where started working again and has for a couple of months. When I first had this problem and read up on it, I took the cluster off and cleaned the connector. Which helped temporarily... I had planned on putting in Autometer gauges.. but at the moment they are again working fine.
My personal Jeep parts salesman says there is an update part for the newer XJs to fix the problem.. You might contact your Jeep dealer and see.
If it happens on my Cherokee again I am going to try the first trick posted by FrankZ... When I was having problems I notice that sometimes when I started it they would work and other times they would not. Maybe a combination of both... Dunno.
