Would a gauge cluster with tach be a direct plug in to the idiot dash style? Would I have to change out some sending units? The XJ's are both 99's. Thanks in advance.

Should be direct swap in, IIRC on the 97+ all the sending units are there, if not, then you would need a new cooling sender (rear of block, driver side) and a oil sender (on OFA housing)

Thumbs up Update

Went to jy today and got instrument panel out of another 99. Plugged into my dash and everything works like it was meant to be that way. Thanks for the help

On a sad note the donor vehicle was totalled out with only 24,000 miles.

Just found out Montana does not care about odometer once the vehicle is in its 11th year of being registered.

ok I wanted to do the same thing but the instrument cluster that i found was from a 2001 XJ. Now, I have a 99' with the idiot light cluster, would i have to change any connections?

1999 and 2001 are still the same "generation", so all should be fine.

I would love to find that kind of Jeep! Imagine the deals that could be had on engines/axles with those kinds of mileage!

Ok, thank you guys, I went to the jy today and found a 98' totaled wow it was rough to see that much damage on a truck just like mine. Anyways I got the panel from it and it worked perfectly AND it had like 24 more miles than my old instrument panel versus the other one I found had like 100,000 more miles.

i did a cluster swap on my 97, only thing i had to do was remove the bulb from the back of the cluster for the Hatch Ajar symbol or it would stay on all the time. My XJ doesnt have that option. its a Base model. other than that, everything works just fine

Axles are gone already. It did have motor and auto trans still intact. That will probably be my first stop if I encounter those problems. The vehicle has lots of front damage and appeared to have been rolled onto topside at least once.
