Default Installing New Tie Rod Ends

On my drag link, I removed the old (bad) tie rod end with some effort involved.

Cleaned it up with brake cleaner. The new tie rod screwed in by hand about 1/3rd of the way. Then I used a wrench to get it to just over half.

After that I had to resort to a 2' pipe wrench and still cannot get it to go.

I the drag link bad? The threads on the Moog tie rod end look good and the nut screwed on okay.

I guess I could heat the Tie Rod but I think that would not be a good idea because I would need to adjust it once back in the jeep.

Any ideas?

Which end is the problem, the stud on the joint or the threaded rod end going into an adjustment sleeve?

This is a non standard Drag Link. The problem is the Tie Rod end will not go all the way into the Drag Link. I tried again today for an hour with no luck.

Left hand thread. I'm thinking the original tap was not as good as it should have been. Monday I'm going to try and see in any of the local machine shops might have a left hand tap that they can chase the treads.

not a bad idea... just curious... you mentioned it was a non-standard drag link. What do you have?

I just replaced all of my tie-rod ends, track bar, etc. about 2 months ago.
Only one link gave me a fit. But a little heat from a small torch did the trick.

As long as you have the right part and not cross threading, you should be ok with heat and lots of PB Blaster. Always compare the one you are putting on to the one you took off.
