I have only changed them a few times. but i found it works good to count how many turns it takes to get the adjustment sleeves off then when you put the new one on use the same amount of turns. I did that on mine and when i took it in to get it aligned they did not have to change anything.

Thats about it, gets them darn close to were they have to be. Or you can measure the ends before you take them of.

Yeah ^, measure the old rod end and compare that length to the length of the new rod end then compensate accordingly... not all rod ends are the exact same length.

before you take the old ones off, you might be able to use spray paint to mark where they were.

Just count the amount of turns to remove it.

this and counting turns doesnt compensate for longer/shorter tie rods as stated above they are not all the same lenght.. best way is to measure.. the measure the old tie rod then the new one if there is a difference in lenth then u know how much to compensate for.. if u can do simple math this is the best way..
cheers

If you are talking about where the TRE attaches to the knuckle, then use what a lot of people call a "pickle fork." Also called a tie rod separator. You should be able to get it as a loan-a-tool at most parts stores if you don't want to buy one.
