installed a new engine quick question?
installed a new engine now my oil gage is reading 40 all the time how hard would it be to add an alternative gage to the dash to fix the problem and by pass the other gage?
this is going to be my 4th built cherokee and my 2end expedition rig. for a cross country trip. I will do a build on it and on the trip when the time comes.

i put in a mechanical gauge. just a cheapie. i teed into the fitting off of the oil sender. its really easy.
should be 13psi or greater at idle (like mine is) and about 30-40 psi cruising (like mine is). its nice to have the mechanical gauge because it responds so quickly vs the stock gauge...its like a little tachometer.

When you say you put in a "new" engine...
Was this a rebuilt, or just a donor from another vehicle? If it was a donor and you used the oil pressure sending unit that came with the donor engine, you might not have a true sender, but just a pressure switch. You can probe the signal to see. If it varies with engine speed, you have a true pressure sender. If it just stays at one spot so long as the engine is running and doesn't change with RPMs, you probably have just a switch.
That being said, when I first put in my remanufactured ATK longblock, using the sending unit from my old motor, I got around 50 all the time for teh first few hundred miles. Once the engine broke in a bit, I now have 40 at cold idle, 58-60 cold at anything above 1600 RPM. Once the engine gets to full hot, I have idle at 20-22 PSI and 45 at anything over 1600 RPM.

its a new engine zero miles on it, I orderd 2 of them one for myself and a friend from a place in Maine, the total price shiped to my door was 2500 for both;-) with gasket kits, these are remanufactured.
the jeep is an 2001 auto cherokee. so on the block its a brass sending unit that i removed off the original block, Im wondering if I should just try buying a new one or go another route. Im thining it might be an electrical issue. but trying to trace that out would be a nightmare.
I know I have oil pressure the jeep runs fine. I can see the oil comeing up to the top end through the valve cover.(oil cap)
