Default Inline 6 to V8 swap

If I were to swap my 4.0 in my 96 cherokee sport with say a 5.2 from a ZJ, would I need any wiring changes or transmission changes? I know about the motor mounts but I'm just trying to figure out about everything else. I got tired of going through search after search so I figure someone on here could help me.

Major changes. Need new computer, wiring, transmission (or adapter plate) and computer for transmission. Plus beefing up the "frame".

It would be a project! Need some serious $ to do it though.

If you really want that motor that bad, just buy a ZJ...
I personally think the 4.0 is plenty of motor for the XJ
So i dont really think its worth all the time/work/money.

You can if you really want to but you will need a whole donor zj to do it.

And if it's a successful swap then you will also have a problem passing emissions.

The work and $$ to do the swap isn't really worth it. If you're looking at doing the swap for performance, just do a 4.7 stroker instead. You get about the same power from it.

If you want to do a V8 swap...Go for it.

After burning thousands of dollars over and over on a stroker I finally learned my lesson and ditched it.

In went the 5.3L and I couldn't be happier. 280-285 hp (213 kW) 325-330 lb·ft in stock form and a proven reliable motor.

5.2L Mopar motor is certainly doable but it's a wide motor, so you won't have a lot of room when your done. Also, consider whats out with regards to aftermarket support before you make your decision.

Any V8 swap will rquire a new tranny, assuming of course that you currently have an AW4. I'll save you some research time, there are no adapters on the market to mate an AW4 to a V8. Although it's a good tranny it does generate a lot of heat and wouldn't hold up to a V8.

To those that say it's not worth it:
Until you've actually been there and done that, you simply don't know.

a GM motor will be your best bet, not only are they plenty-full, they are really small in size with plenty of power to handle big tires (300+hp) there are alot of kits that they make out there for a small block swap and LS motor swap. you could reuse an AX-15 with an adapter but it wont last that long. better off going with a 700R4 or a turbo 350/400 auto. if you are really set on it then it is sry to say that a Mopar motor is by far the worse choice in the motor swap idea.
