I have a 2000 xj and decided to do the injector swap. I purchased the Bosch 4 port injectors fit for that year and model. After swapping them out and the battery still disconnected, I touched the positive and negative wires together for 30 seconds, reconnected the battery, turned the key on, headlights on and off, then the key back off to reset the computer. When I started the engine, the check engine light came on. I know that the computer isn't used to the new injectors and is supposed to "learn" and reconfigure for them, but the engine is idling pretty rough and it doesn't want to turn over when I start it. It acts like it has a dead battery. Anyway, everything was working fine before, but I can't figure out why it is acting this way. I've only put about 15 miles on it since I changed the injectors. Anyone have some ideas?

i don't have a reader. i'll check it tomorrow i guess. it acts like the timing is retarded pretty badly, and that would be the computer doing its thing, right?

i just did the odometer code read, but it wouldn't give me a code. it counted 1 to 9, and that was it. afterwards i tried starting it, and it didn't give the trouble like before with starting, but still idles more like a 350 big block

yeah, it would take a fair amount of cranks to get it to turn over, and it acted like the timing was retarded when it did crank. it started cranking better late last night, but the idle was still a big rough.

as an update, it fired right up this morning in a flash but blew a lot of smoke out. didn't smell like oil. it is now idling a little higher. i shut the engine off after a little while and then it took a lot of cranks to start it up again, again, a quick blast of smoke, and then idled much better. is this just the "learning" process for the computer?

took it for a cruise yesterday. keeping my fingers crossed, but it seems to have worked itself out. nice, steady idle and great fuel response now.
