I just bought a 88 cherokee with the inline 6 motor for $500.00. I changed out the three injectors the previouse owner had not and now the motor runs very rich (black smoke coming out of the tail pipe). threre is no fuel leaks and I have checked all of my connections! Does anyone have any ideas?

 

How many miles?

 

A lot on the odometer (272, xxx) but the motor and trans. was pulled from somewhere about two years ago. Prior to this the motor ran very strong; with plenty of power. Needless to say I am at a loss. I also installed brand new plugs, wires, oil change, and air filter.

 

You only did 3 injectors?

 

replace o2 sensor, reset the computer, unhook batt and connect neg and postive wires together. o2 sensor will not always through a code

 

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I just tried to start it and now the engine will not turn over at all! the battery is fully charged... so I am not sure what to do. I will try to reset the computer and re-place the 02 sensor that sounds like a good idea thanks.

 

crank and not start or not crank?

 

crank with no start, I got under and gave the starter some good hits and it barely turned so it looks like it is the starter. Thanks for your intrest.
