Oh noooo... When you wrote "i just got 6 new neon injectors", I thought you meant the actual Chrysler 703 injectors found in 95-97 Dodge Neons, not neon colored injectors.

I sincerely hope that you didn't spend $200 on AIRTEX injectors

F1! BE NICE! He didn't get "Neon colored" He got neon injectors from the years everybody always seems to be talking about. I was suprized, and a bit pissed when it took me 3 trips to to JY to pick up 8, 703's, none from Neons.

Sounds like some more homework/research might be in order. You could pick up one old Deka-Siminons or whatever and put it all back. Problem is all that handling, and some more will probably start leaking. (they crumble like an old MAP tube).

If my data is correct, the stock flow rate for Renix, 87-90 is 18.6 Lbs./hr. The 703's are 20% more, (22.32), and the 4 hole design is better than one hole. (somebody has come out with 6 now, Fyi). Not seeing much on improved mileage, (IN RENIX) but they sure run nice on'm.

If what you got is ,say 24, that just might be too much, Idk. myself. I would start with google, then maybe bother Notop46 if I still couldn't figure it out. I guess he's still learning like the rest of us. Our old Renix ECU, won't "Learn" or anything, like the PCM found in 91 and on.

So here's a link to some more... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/10-...bility-108854/

I wasn't trying to be mean. But when he wrote:

I assumed that meant he got AIRTEX injectors (not the 703s). Did I miss something?

jeepsluvmud, can you take a picture of your engine bay for us?

For the record, I got four from a Dodge Caravan and four from a Dodge Stratus... not one of them came from a Neon mostly because every Neon there either had 784 injectors or had already been picked clean.

It's all good.

Yea! Stratus that waz one...and I think Breeze was the other. "Squinty Eye" headlights as I recall. 2nd day it clouded up and started to rain at five minutes till 5. Had the last four in my hand and couldn't read the numbers, no time to go get a light. Had to come back a third day. $8 each after fees and tax, out the door.

I paid $3.50 ($2.50 + $1.00 core) for the first set and $5.99 ($4.99 + $1.00 core) for the second. Little did I know, Mondays are half-off day at Pick-a-Part. Mondays usually suck! But they suck a little less with this discovery.

Get back to us, jeepluvsmud, we'll help you figure this mess out. At the very least we'll get you headed in the right direction. Sorry for my remark, I wasn't trying to be rude but I see how it could read that way.

Alright, first thing I would do is research Rock Auto's return policy. If you can get your money back, do so. Next, you're not a dumb****, you're a n00b, we've all been there and there is a difference.

Next, find yourself a set of Chrysler 703 injectors, many assume they are most prevalent or exclusively found in 1995-1997 Dodge Neons which is why they're often referred to as "Neon" injectors. This is a myth, as you can read above, both Flintstone and I found them in everything but Dodge Neons. If you're not up to rummaging through the junk yard, there are several people in the vendor section here on cherokeeforum who sell refurbished sets (6 injectors) for $40-$60, shipped. Here is one such vendor. Cruiser54 likes a company called Precision Injector who sells matched and flow tested Bosch injectors for your '89 for around $100 a set.

AIRTEX manufactures notoriously unreliable products, the pages of cherokeeforum are littered with people ranting about their fuel pumps failing out of the box. I don't know about their injectors but their track record with fuel pumps is not good.

I noticed in the picture of your engine bay that the vacuum line coming off of your throttle body seems to route off to the right somewhere and I can't see where the line from your MAP sensor goes. Make sure that they're routed correctly and plugged into the correct holes. There is a rubber fitting on the back of the throttle body that appears to have two holes in it, the vacuum line should be plugged into the bottom hole (I think the other one is just a blank). From there, it should be routed directly to the underside of the MAP sensor which is bolted to the firewall just behind and to the right (driver's side) of the valve cover.

That is awesome news about the return, I'm proud of Rock Auto. As far as the injectors, those provided by Precision look stock but they're not. They're actually Bosch injectors, rather than the crap Dekra injectors that Jeep installed. If you decide to go the other route and get the Chrysler 703s, they are a direct swap for your '89 4.0. I just did mine on Saturday... pull the fuel rail, yank the old injectors, push the new ones in*, put fuel rail back on, plug wires in, done. If you check the "For Sale" thread at the bottom of the main page there are usually several people selling them. Or, you can go to the junk yard and get them yourself... that's what I did. Expect to pay between $5 and $8 each.

*Keep in mind that if you get them from the junkyard you'll need to clean them by soaking in fuel injector cleaner or Seafoam and you'll have to install new o-rings which usually run about $12 a set.

This is what the 703s will look like installed on your fuel rail...

yeah, i think i posted somewhere before that i couldn't find any 703's in a single neon either, no matter what year.

i found all mine in the mid - late 90's sebring/cirrus/stratus.

no noticeable gain in fuel mileage, but a much better throttle response.

I think that Neon's have a reputation for having them because they're all 4 cylinder while the Sebrings, Cirrus, Stratus, and Caravans were all available with a V6. The injectors were only used in Chrysler 4 cylinder engines between 1995 and 1997... but not all Chrysler 4 cylinder engines from that era. You have to read the numbers on the injector to make sure you're getting the 703s... The 784s look almost identical (other than the number stamped on the side) but they won't work in a Renix-era 4.0.
