Its about a foot up from bottom of coloumn .You want to just unbolt it so ignition key actuator rod is not connected to it this will tell you if its the coloumn or switch causing the issue . then you can proceed further.

Ok guys. So ive made some progress here. Got the CPS in havent test fired it yet but i also found something on the steering column ignition lock issue. There is the high beam rod and then the ignition switch actuator rod. But theres another thing up above it. It has a *** and a cable clips onto it. I unhooked that cable and i pushed the rod all the way in and it allowed the ignition switch to roll over into its locked position. However i cannot get that 3rd rod up above the ignition one to do that on its own. Only manually as the cable doesnt seem to have enough slack. Does anyone know the name of this part or has encountered this issue before? Thanks for sticking with me through this everyone!

I might also add that this was after going to pick n pull and damaging the bottom bolt holes ripping out the plate that holds the steering column in place to the firewall. Got it home completely dismanteled it...started doing the same thing my current steering column is and this just upset me so i cut off the plastic housing with a dremel that hides where the actuator for the ignition is and fiddled with the rods and that 3rd mystery bar and finally noticed what was wrong. Only cost 50 dollars and hopefully they will take it back! =P But a lesson learned none the less.

Here it is. Ok so you can see the high beam rod on bottom the ignition rod in the middle and the nipple or plunger up above it. The thing witht he ball on it. When i push it fully in to the right it allows the ignition rod to be rolled back into the lock poosition. However the rod that connects to it isnt able to go far enough to push it back far enough to allow the ignition cross to move into the lock position. I cannot figure out what this piece is called or what purpose it serves.

This was on the 92 cherokee as well that i pulled this steering column from. My sttering coumn has it. You cant see it if the steering column is bolted in place. Have you ever had your steering columns out? Its just weird...to have hte same thing happen on 2 steering columns.
