Ingition lock cylinder.
Hi, guys. SO i bought my jeep and it appeared to have been broken into at some point. passenger side door wont lock and the drivers side lock spins around freely. And the ignition cylinder could be started without a key. In fact putting a key in pretty much would get the key stuck. Well i just got aorund today to replacing it. The old one came out real easy. Put the new one in but it wotn go back all the way. The little I shaped rod it slides onto isnt fitting unless the key is turned to the accesory position. Then the cylinder slides on all the way but ic ant turn it back into the off/lock position to remove the key.
NOW i cant even get the old one back in for the same reason. What do i do guys? =( |
Schucks, I guess the snipping tool doesn't work.
Anyway, the FSM stated to put the key in the ignition and turn to the lock position, before removing. And doing the same to install. |
Thats part of the problem. The cylinder was punched and you could start it without a key and it would only go to the accesory position. No further back.

Ill have to make a video of my issue tomorrow. And If the accessory is where your showing it is free gdr then my cylinder is 2 clicks forward ahead of that and thats the furthest it will go back. >.<

You may have to remove the ignition switch lower down on column and make sure key will move freely forward and back ,maybe something got snafued from break in ?

Ok, im kinda hesitant on going any further into the steering column. Do you guys know of any resources pics/videos and whatnot or guides on how to disassemble and reassemble this bit?

Remove the ignition switch on top of the coloumn it easier to do than removeing all you've done all ready its two bolts ....
|
Is it freegdr? Is it those two bigger torx bolts? And thank you cruiser that is a great link.

http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/wobble26.jpg Right arrow indicates the rod that connects the rack and the ignition switch. The other two arrows indicate the small 5/16" screws that hold the ignition switch to the column. The switch has slotted holes so there is a small amount of adjustment if needed. |
Ok so what am i looking for with the ignition switch? Something being bent? Or just outright replacing it? And you said its on the top of the steering column. How far back is it?
