Thats just it though Freegdr. This is on 2 different columns. The same issue. I found this on accident. I couldnt figure out how to remove that plastic cover where the gearshift would be on a manual. So i grabbed a column from the junk yard. I found that thing there and noticed when i push that top thing in it lets me roll the ignition back into the lock position. I was stoked because now i found the problem something stupid i overlooked. So i went and did it on my jeep popped the new key cylinder in and put the lock screw in and then i went to hook the wire back up to it and the wire wont reach... Ok took the ignition back out pulled the unidentified mystery plunger down hooked the wire up and like that the ignition cross wont roll back into the lock position.

This the cable its adjustable at floor shifter .......

What does it do? Do you know the specific name of the part? But yeah that is the exact cable and rod i was talking about. You keep saying its to a floor shifter. Im guessing the shifting knob in the center console? One thing i should mention is i can shift the jeep without pressingthe button or holding down the brake. It wont start while in gear though so the neutral safety switch still works.

That cable runs from shifter to column when in park it pushes or pulls the lever. Remove center console and see whats going on there.

Ok! So i found the issue. The button for my shifter never worked it was stuck down. There is a pin that when in park allows the key to go into the lock position. It was stuck which is also whyt the shifter could move without the button being pushed down. I used plenty of pb blaster and white lithium grease and now things are moving a bit better. Its still tight but i suspect it will get better with time now that i know whats wrong. Thanks =) Finally nailed this down. What a pain in the *** it was tracking everything back to its source.
