Default I'm gonna buy a Cargo Mat, what do you recommend?

Hi guys,

I was going to try to fix my OEM cargo carpet with the chrome strips, but they are too bent and deformed.

I decided to throw in the towel and buy a new cargo mat instead. Maybe something like a Husky or a Weather Tec, or a Lloyd.

I also would like to know if the 4 door XJ and the 2 door XJ use the same size mat.

Any recommendations?

While I'm at it... I've had two persons tell me I should move my gel battery to the cargo area, because the heat under the hood will shorten it's life.
Anybody here have a comment on that?

I have a rugged ridge cargo mat and I'm not really happy with it. Their floor mats are awesome, but it seems like they used a different material for the cargo mat. It almost seems like some type of foam rubber as opposed to heavy rubber like the floor mats.

It may cost you more than the price of the battery to move it to the back of the Jeep. It would also be a job that would take a few hours of work. You will also suffer a drop in voltage because of the longer line from the back of the Jeep to the front.

I'm glad you chimed in with this. I have their front floor mats and they are great. I was going to suggest the RR cargo mat based on my satisfaction with the front floor mats. Good to get some input from an actual owner, sad to hear they are not the same and aren't as good.

I was looking at Rugged Ridge as well, along with the Rugged Ridge wheel flares, which are supposed to be an exact OEM replacement.

neither of them have good reviews.

They sure look good in pictures.

I have the Lloyd mat and am pleased with it as far as looks/fit goes they are known for quality on their products.

On the battery relocation its not a bad idea and if you use the proper cabling you will not have any looses. There are several very good battery hold downs for the gel cell batteries also, I have one for my Optima battery that I bought from Summit Racing.

I have an Optima too. I was always under the impression heat under the hood was not an issue.

Aaaaand.... That's what I bought. The Lloyds were a close second.

Thanks guys. Nothing better than a active forum.

I've sold quite a few of the Rugged Ridge floor liners and haven't had anyone say anything about any difference between the front/passenger and cargo liners.

I was surprised by that also as most are the same as the floor mats.

I was surprised too when it showed up, but it's definitlely different. Besides for being a different material, it also doesn't have the little "spikes" that grab into the carpet.

I'm not saying it's absolute junk, but it's definitely a lighter material than the floor mats so I thought people should know.
