Shouldn't immediately be thinkin about problems. Start thinking about how badass it looks. How it can literally traverse heaven and hell. How the 4.0 was forged by god himself. .. Oh and how the power windows will not work. Ride with pride!

i belive the head has already been done before. no surprise. 11 years is a big difference in a vehicle. (coming from a renix) my 89 had the same little problems as all the other 89s (renix) ive crossed path with. i didnt know if it were the same with a 2000, or if they were notorious for anything

I have a 2000 and like any other Jeep it has its issues. It runs great but on any given day it throws a monkey wrench at ya. My wife wanted to drive it from NY to Las Vegas and I laughed. I asked her what kinda tools are ya taken.
I think as mine was= as long as its been taken care of, the problems will be minimal or at least you will know where to start since u have been the one fixing it.

Mine (2000 sport 108,000 miles) had a reman'd 0331 head on it. It went bad as well and I put a new head from clearwater cylinder on it.
Before you buy it, get it warm. HOT, and see what the oil pressure is at idle. If it dips below 10, or even drops to 0 and the light comes on, that means the bearing damage has been done. Crank the heat, is it warm? Or is the heater core plugged? Was the PO real good at maintenance, or are you willing to go through and cycle all the fluids, plugs, filters, widgets that are likely due to go at this point in a vehicles life?
The O2 sensors are more than likely near the end of their life span.
Just some of the things I wished I would have looked closer at.

Start inspecting things, especially the plugs. A lot of people don't realize how much a spark plug can tell them about how the engine is running. Clean up the engine right away and start watching for leaks.

I found a '96 the other day in perfect shape with 100k on it, but the dude wanted 5 grand. I said dammit right to his face. He just laughed... It was a cruel moment...

This is all great to know. The thing doesn't have ANY leaks on the block from the vcg down. It's very clean. The only thing wrong is a hole in the hood that the "dealer" (so he says) drilled into it because the cable broke?? Kinda stupid. Hut other than that the lift is solid, no DW or steering problems with the heavy duty front arms. Massive sound system, cool air and exhaust.. for 5k. Should hold up for me better than the 89 that is slowly falling apart with a bad tranny seal. But now I'll have 2 jeeps
I can see why they may have drilled a hole in the hood. My XJ sat in the driveway for 1yr and the cable broke because the side double lock hood was so rusted. I for get how I got it open but it didn't involve drilling.
