I was reading a thread about many who have the same problem I do, that their 4wd dash lights dont work when engaged in 4wd. I read that i have to replace the 4wd indicator switch on the transfer case. So before I go buy one, I decide to make sure mine isnt disconnected or loose, so I go under and take a look. I start messing with this one switch that Im pretty sure now is not the right one. I try to unscrew the rusty bolt and the housing cracks and TC fluid starts leaking out. Can you guys tell me what part I cracked here? It is on the rear facing side of the transfer case right near where the rear drive shaft comes out of the case? I hope I just didnt make an expensive rookie mistake

If that is the tail end of the tcase then that would be the speed sensor but I could be wrong

To the OP, you're not an ahole. No need for that.

Describe what happened, you loosened the bolt for the speedo sensor and fluid started coming out? How much fluid?

When I changed mine, I did it with the transfer case full of fluid and only a couple drops came off the end of the sensor itself. There is an o-ring on the speedo sensor that may be cracked and brittle.

I was trying to unscrew that bolt that connects the speed sensor to the speedo gear and it was rusted/stripped and when i turned it, the bell shaped end cracked right along side where the bolt is . just a couple of drops. It looks like I would have to replace the whole speedometer if it is a big deal, if not, can I just super glue the crack because it is plastic?

that is exactly it, I took it out of the transfer case just like in your picture. The crack is on the bell-shaped plastic part with the two numbers, that sits just outside of the case. Do I need to worry about the crack, superglue it, or try and replace the part?

also, when I look up a replacement gear, it only brings up the green gear piece at the end, would the other part be called the gear housing or something?

O-Ring OEM P/N 6035709

Bolt 5/16x18x3/4 (Hardware Store)

Sensor, Vehicle Speed, OEM P/N 56027905
