Default ignition system help

I replaced my ignition switch today. Fairly simple job or so I thought. Now when I go to start the jeep it won't turn over nothing dead as a door nail. All my accesories work. Before I replaced the switch I could turn the key and it run until you released the key. I'm not sure what went wrong.

Its a 95 cherokee btw

Have you tried to adjust the switch? Assuming that on the '95 the switch is still mounted on the lower part of the steering column, it is adjustable and will move just a bit up or down the column by loosening the mounting screws.

What was your original problem leading to the changing out of the switch? You say it would not run after you released the key but are you sure that the problem was in the switch and not something else? I'm not sure if the '95 still has the fuel pump ballast resistor that can cause a no run situation after start.

Almost certain it was the switch, in the last couple of weeks when you would try to start it. It took a little wiggling of the key and the it would start. When I pulled the old one it didn't look the best. Not sure you can adjust it but will check in the morning. As far as the fuel pump ballast I don't think they had them on the 95's. I'm really beginning to think maybe the switch and tumbler should have been replaced. If that's the case I'll just go push button.

If you loosen the switch it should slide up and down the column.

Does sound like the switch. If the switch is mounted on the top of the column, it is adjustable. It only moves a tiny bit. I swapped mine ('93) out several years ago and got tired of standing on my head trying to get the Accessory position to work. I have a separate switch for the radio and wasn't concerned about the other components so it's not a problem.

Let us know what you find.

Well problem fixed. Feel like such a idiot. Took the switch back off this morning only to realize that the wiring harness was fully seated. Guess that's what you get for doing something in the dark with a cell phone flashlight
