Default Ignition switch will not turn

Hey guys and gals,

There is a comanche I am thinking about buying but it will not start up due to the ignition switch on the steering collumn not turning as if it is always locked. What could be causing this and does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to fix?? Does anyone know a way to start the vehicle with out utilizing the ignition switch??

Thanks in advance!

cylinder is blocked, spray some wd40 or similiar and giggle with the key. If it doesn't work you will need to remove the lock and replace it.

lol, when I went to buy my jeep, I got in and tried the key...and no avail, until he remembered that his son had replaced the doors and didnt get the tumblers to match the Original key. then he got me the right key

Just replace the ignition switch. Its behind the wheel at the base of the column. Costs like 8 bucks.

Release the ignition lock cylinder by unscrewing the release screw through the hole underneath the ignition on the lower steering column shroud. Place the whole thing in a glass of mineral spirits overnight (except fot the plastic around the edges). This will clean out all the "gunk" and then wipe clean and dry it with compressed air and re-install.
