Ignition question...

You know I was looking into that the other day when I came across a GM HEI distributor for the 4.2 but I figured being computer controlled they probably already had an HEI type ignition... or atleast have the same capability/out put of one. If this was a good upgrade I would imagine we would have heard about it already since it seems to be a popular mod for the 4.2ltr. I am also interested in this if anyone has any further info.

Only ignition upgrade I have heard about that accomplished much of anything is the Jacobs ignition system. They are a little pricey but their testimonials from some other forums seem promising. HERE
It seems that they have been bought ou by Mr. Gasket along with several other smaller companies.

GM HEI's can be modded to FIT into any motor.
Example: 1982 Chrysler 5th Ave 318 w/auto
**Howler's handiwork. GM HEI head grafted onto Mopar dist. base with machined shaft. Cured all hard starting/ wet starting and Lean-Burn Computer isses (it replaced Lean-Burn) I made several of these units. The one pictured ran for over 60K after I sold the car. 5th Ave got hit hard in rear. Owner removed drivetrain and junked car.**
FITMENT is one thing WORKING PROPERLY is another. I am unsure at this moment if there is wiring compatability -OR- if this system would cause computer to fault or give an annoying CEL/SES light.
Might want to check with Davis Unified Ignitions (D.U.I. for short...)
Thier systems are what originally gave me the idea to try what I did with that 5th Ave. That and I didn't feel like forking over almost $400.
Guess Im a cheapo that way.
Did this answer the question??? Probably not.
But at least it was a good excuse to post some pic of my work.
Bad Howler, baaaaad, badbadbad.
