think i found the correct bolt?
So it is none of these pictured, i believe. There is a very difficult area to access but it looks like there is one bolt holding in the steering shaft to the intermediate shaft from the steering linkage that is right next to and perpendicular to the "splined shaft" in the picture above is. The bolt head is facing up towards the dash so not only can i not take a picture but its going to be real tough to get at with a wrench. But its only one bolt. You guys think I found it?

that might be more work but easier. Im just following the factory service manual instructions on replacing the column... right now that steering coupler bolt is turning out to be the a pain in the **s to take out. It's winning right now...

i been talking to EeeSkwa via PM, disconnecting the intermediate shaft is not needed at all
**** the wheel to the right a tad, get up in there with a ratchet and boom that bolt is free, take the other 4 out and that whole thing slides right out
when you put it back in just sit in the drivers seat with the new column in your lap and line up the splines with the coupler and it slips right together, make sure the bolt goes through then wrestle the column in place
ive only done one and it was the way i just described, IMO disconnecting it under the hood isnt needed and would just add more time to the overall job

yes, I made sure that that it came with a key. And, I think you are saying "make it as straight as possible" relative to the angle of the coupler bolt because if the car is on the ground, and I install the new column, if I try to steer it back to the center before tightening it the wheel back on, can't I damage the clock-spring in the replacement column?

I guess all im saying is that I need to make sure the wheels are staright and the steerring wheel centered before re-installing my old steering wheel, correct? I am trashing the one from the replacement column, because it is all chewed up. Im worried that turning the wheels back to the proper position will damage the clockspring in the new column if the car is parked with all 4 on the ground.

did the same after they tryed to steal mine.
pull the steeringwheel off, then the electric parts for headlight and turn-signal, then the small plastic part for the horn. then you see a bolt. loosen it and put the new cylinder back in. fix the column then and you have an new lock cylinder.
had cost me just 50 euro's for the new part with 2 new keys

Because when they ripped out the ignition lock cylinder they destroyed the metal sleeve/housing around it that holds it in place with the ignition lock cylinder release screw. When i took off the knee blocker there were shattered metal pieces of the column in it all broken up. The only reason i need a new column it appears is because of this....also its been a fun project too if there is a silver lining. I haven't really worked on cars since highschool so it feels good to do the project myself.

In most states if you have insurance on your car and you bought another car, your insurance will carry over for 48 hours, i had a friend that hit another car when he was driving home from picking up his car that he bought, his insurance covered it. just like you can drive home without plates or registration as long as you have the bill of sale and ID for the 1st 24 hours, or next business day if it falls on a weekend. know this prob. wont help you much but just pointing it out.
