Had common issue of ignition lock cylinder sticking, almost to the point where I was afraid of getting stranded. Took ignition lock cylinder out and cleaned it with brake cleaner then lubricated with lock lube (bought at Home Depot). Used an eyeglass screwdriver to scrape crud out of channels where pins rotate (self explantory after you see the cylinder). Re-installed and so far is working fine. Will save you a couple of bucks vice replacing cylinder.
Hint: removing the bezel around the gages made taking the steering column cover out and re-installing easier. To remove the headlight ****, there is a button on the side (it may be on the bottom in some vehicles) of the headlight switch that you press to remove the ****.
Sorry, didn't take pictures.

Good info. I assume this is your 2001? For an older Jeep with the GM style column and the separate door and ignition keys, just replace the lock. It's a pain to get to, and a new lock with keys is under $15..
