To be really honest... mine sounds exactly like that. It even pauses and everything. I JUST replaced the starter. And so far, I haven't had any luck getting it to start either. I've just been working on other things and slowly making progress on other things. So, I guess I may have the same problem as you do. I was working on the solution myself though. Maybe somebody can help us...

At this point, why not. Without plugs it should turn over VERY fast and smooth.

I was literally in the process of typing this too. It's gotta be cause that's exactly what it would sound like. The cranking slows down because a plug is firing on the wrong stroke.
