Today my dad blew the motor in his stock 96 XJ, It had that comon lifter tap or though i thought so, and the other day it got real loud and this morning he drove about a quater mile and it stalled, i got it running and it sounded like an M80 went off inside, i got it running for like 15 seconds and then some serious boom boom booms, Done! only 160K on it too
it needs work, not worth putting a new motor in it. Although hes probably going to junk it. But for me i have a 99 and i want to take as much as i can off the truck without having a **** load of big part piles that are going to build up. I was thinking about parting it out but you know how it is.
So so far ive got CPS sensor, Catylatic converter, starter, new battery, Radio, front DS, and diff covers.
These are mainly the things i need, what would you take thats useful

Axle shafts, Tie-rods, injectors, Every sensor you can find. TPS, MAP, O2. Leave the knock sensor since that is probably what was wrong with your pops truck. Hmmm Electric fan... You could take a lot of stuff. Unless he needs to get rid of it. YOu won't get much from the JY and stuff I would just keep it around a few years.
yeah I asked him if he wanted to put a motor in it but hes done with it, Its a bit of work and were always busy. I would totally keep it but i already have 3 cars and hes set on a new Grand Cherokee as it is. I figure if we sell we could get 500. Or take parts out now that i will prolly need in the future cuz im always breaking **** from wheeling and what not and just get rid of it for like 100

His is a 99 and his dads is a 96 so the axles won't work on his.27 spline vs 29 spline.Other than that ,what he said.Originally Posted by XJ Stryker

Are you referring to the 8.25? If so he may have the 29 spline in his 96. Mine came with 29 spline from the factory and quite a few others have too.

Yep that's what I was thinking. Plus why not just take them and you can be the guy that has extra shafts when you are wheelin with buddies.Originally Posted by country_boy454

What model XJ came with the 29 spline in 96?Mine has the 27 and it was built on August 28 of 96 as a 96.It's also a Country edition and fully loaded with leather.I thought ,because it was built so late in the year it might have the 29 so I pulled an axle and nope.I don't have ABS but I do have the ABS u-joints though.Thought that was odd.Originally Posted by country_boy454
