Default Idle Issue

So i just bought a 2001 Cherokee Sport 4X4 and it has an idle issue. Basically it should idle around 700 or so but it keep dropping to 400-500 and in some cases just turns off. I think I need to adjust the set screw on the throttle body; but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and if so how did you fix it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can try cleaning your TPS but I wouldn't mess with the screw. That is set from the factory ad the rest is controlled electronically by sensors and such.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I haven't tried anything yet but I'll try cleaning the TPS and go from there. I know the Jeep stayed parked most of the time and was rarely driven.

I would try new gas if you haven't put any in yet. Run some injector cleaner through and check the plugs.

Clean check what you can before tinkering and adjusting anything. Try cleaning the throttle body and butterfly also.

A good Seafoaming may be warranted. It works pretty well.

Turns out it was just loose battery connections. I guess I was in such a rush to get to work I didn''t even think to check that.

I'm glad you found it. Apparently these 4.0's are really picky when it comes to have good and tight ground wires.
