Same thing happened to me spent a few hours getting the bolts outta the block thank god for Snap On Easy Out Bits~

if you dont like your vehicle. sell it and move on.

I will enjoy the piece of mind that my vehicle was built well, i maintain it well, and because it dubs as a hobby, it pays off for providing more Fun and thrills then any daily driver ranger can. It will also be a cold day in hell before i take some riced out pile of crap over my box of elbow grease.

The cherokee has a reliable engine and transmission (that is japanese!). The probe of this is that YOU DID IT HOME with a broken engine mount, if it happened on your Ranger you would have an engine on the pavement and a totalled ford on the railway.

Problem come with buying used vehicles. You can buy a brand new truck and it will be problem free for years but you can buy the same exact truck used and it would be problematic every other day. When you buy a used vehicle you are buying other people's problems. Even if they previous owner said he took care of it blah blah blah you don't know what his idea of "taking care of it" is. It could just be changing oil every 3k and replacing plugs every now and then. That's not proper maintenance procedure.

I bought my 2001 xj 2.5 years ago and It's been a living hell since.....but i didn't throw in the flag yet. All the fluids were black or brown, wheel bearing was blown, plugs were never changed, and u-joints were dry as a desert. Heck this is what the filter looked like when I pulled it out:



That's the oem filter that was NEVER changed. It was practically molded to the airbox! It also has a bad misfire in multiple cylinders that I haven't been able to fix yet and I've replaced over $300 worth of parts so far.....but I ain't giving up cuz I know it's fixable. To top it off, the dealer told me the PO took care of it really well....YEAH! I ain't calling it a lemon because of all the problems cuz I know I was asking for issues when I bought a rig with 82k on the ticker.

If you want to go back to the ford, that's fine. We won't hate you.

I bought mine with the pass side bolts broke off in the block. Dealer wanted $2300 to fix, said they had to pull the motor.

I was able to get to the bolts by dropping the motor down. Had to disconnect the other side motor mount, take batt, alt out, and disconnect some wires and took a bolt out of a/c component (hold down bolt for r12 reservoir thingy). I also unbolted the trans cross member from the frame(used jack to support). Used block of wood and jack on oil pan to support, lower, and raise motor. I used right angle drill and LEFT handed drill bits. The bolts that were in the block came right out. I then used a 3/8ths by 16 tap to clean out the threads. Got new bolts and put it back together.

I did not use locktite because it would be a pain to get the bolts out next time. This was the second time this has happened to this jeep at 115,000 miles first time was around 60,000 fixed at dealer acording to records from PO. for $650. This truck had never been off road and was lady driven.

I do believe in lemons as the first jeep i had was a real lemon,It was a 1992 xj with the ax-15 tranny,and 4.0L.Every time i drove the darn thing it broke and left me stranded..Fuel pump twice,slave for the clutch let go.and many other issues.Just things like this and it drove me nut's..I just sold it and bought the 1991 auto aw4 and could not be more satisfied,It always runs great and it has yet to let me down as my dd..That being said you can't expect a 20 yr old or 10 yr for that matter vehicle to never break.They will need work and no need to get on here and bash them when we all know how dependable they really are..If you mistreat them like going thru mud everyday expect to pay because mud clogging everything is not good but it's fun and if this is what you like then you know what things can happen..There only as good as you treat them..Treat them like sh^# and they will run like sh^#..I never let the first jeep i had discourage me from trying another and i am glad i did the one i have now is great..Like i said i do believe some are lemons just like any model vehicle that you choose to buy used..We never know until some time passes how dependable it will be..Love my heep!!

jeeps are pretty reliable...a little preventative maintenance and you can drive em for a LONG time. I beat the crap out of mine every weekend, and it still drives me around town whenever i want. Yes i have replaced parts, but its a 9 year old vehicle! Parts are going to have to be changed...they wear out...just because a few parts wore out when you bought the vehicle doesnt mean it is a lemon.

Cherokee's are pretty dependable, and pretty simple. sure they have their list of common problems (electrical gremlins, 2000-2001 head cracking, etc)...but every vehicle has those. Good luck on the fix, and what you decide to do with your jeep.

Mine is 20 years old and it runs great. You have to take care of them and periodically check everything out. Tighten loose bolts, change fluids and filters, but overall they will last almost forever if you take good care of them and don't let them deteriorate.

91' XJ broke bolts off on passenger side. Put clutch fan up against radiator. Noticed it at the gas station when checking the oil. Drove it home, Crawled under it with a dremel, cut a notches in the sheared bolts and used a shot screwdriver to back them out. Pulled the oil filter adapter, jacked up the motor with a floor jack and a 2x4. Put in the new motor mount and bolts. Replaced oil filter adapter. Done. 2hrs

Haha yeah, that's a Jeep thing.
My list of bolts that i found loose or missing after 22 years:
*Steering box, loose
*Track bar mount, loose
*PS pump mount, loose and missing
*AC compressor, loose
*Tranny mount, both missing (that was fun, the whole engine-tranny-TC assembly had a foot of play over the crossmember, but it drove)
*front diff cover, loose
*exhaust manifold, loose and missing

hmmm, can't remember any other at the moment...

Both of the fellas whining about their Jeeps are no longer posting in here, HHMM, they must be out driving the Jeeps they hate so much!! I happen to love mine, and yes, things break, it's a fact of owning a Jeep. If I put any other vehicle through the crap I drive my bread box through, it would be toast!! Mine gets me home every time, period!! Next time, look at the vehicle, BEFORE you buy it!! Who's fault is this, really??
