This kinda crap goes on all the time and not just with garages. We are renovating a house and plumbers, carpenters, electricians all try to pull it. If they are dealing with my wife the job is one price if they deal with me the price goes down 30 or 40%. Whatever happened to honesty and integrety? Hope it works out for you.

i've followed this thread from the get go......there is no need to swap a housing unless it's bent or damaged from major breakage....if the carrier slid side to side that is what the side shims are for..i still think this deal smells funny...my former girl (i don't use ex because she went into the service it was an agreed upon deal) ended up in alabama with her 87 k5 (6in lift 36s 44/14bff combo) chewed up a wheel bearing and a shop tried to sell her...get this.. inner and outer tie rod ends,a control arm and axle shaft...luckily she knows her stuff..it's bad enough these places try to sell women parts they don't need but that place tried to sell her parts the truck don't have... don't let this walk it don't sound right...merry christmas and thank you for your service to our country...

I dont know if you are active duty or reserve, each time I deployed with the reserves we had a family readiness group that worked with soldiers families to help them through issues when we were gone. We had a guys wife get screwed by a garage with car stuff also. The FRG had brothers, sisters, fathers, uncles, friends and a whole crap load of other people jump all over the garage until the issue was settled

Add that to FrankZ's knowledge and I am sure you can get this fixed

If you are from an active duty base go through your chain of command and get your active side FRG involved, They have a **** load of resources at your disposal.

No one ever tolorates a soldiers wife getting screwed while the troops are over seas!!!!

Chuck
true story worst case scenario (best case for you) you have JAG take care of it...i love having free lawyers haha

DK,

If you're still in need of help, I'm not much into the technical side of things but I'd be MORE than willing to pick up the housing and bring it down to FrankZ's place in the Springs to have him check it out. Just a quick thought on what little I can do to help.

Thanks to you and everyone else serving our country. Please come back safely.

Danny

I see that the OP has been in contact with "the culprit" and has FrankZ on-board to get this worked out. It is unfortunate that this kind of thing has to happen "all the time" and especially haness that it has to happen to a seerviceman in-country. Glad the internet is here to get things done in a timely manner, and folks like FrankZ to help out.

As to a resolution, it just could be the housing was bad, 4WD needs to prove it. There is a recent thread on our local forum Reno4x4.com about a spun bearing (with pictures) that toasted the bearing seat and the need to replace the entire housing. Rare indeed but it can happen. If this is truly the case $500 for a housing and labor seems resonable, why didn't 4WD just say that up front?

At this point I say lets have a little patience and let the OP, 4WD and FrankZ and friends work things out.

I am sure if this doesn't come out right the locals can seriously chastize the 4WD shop, with all our blessings.

Thanks again to FrankZ and friends, to the OP - stay safe.
It is pretty clear the Colorado 4x4 community is on-the-case..........

Looks like 4wp customer service is as bad in-shop as it is online.. Didn't think that could be possible haha

My question for the idiots at 4WP is this:
If you can't get the No-Slip out, then how exactly do you plan on removing the axles?
Sorry to here this man. NEVER send your woman to an auto store.(I understand you are away right now, I've been there) This hapens all too often now-adys. It sucks. Get this figured out and stay away from the BIGGER named 4wd shop/stores. If you end up on the East Coast and need help on any Jeep stuff, I can help you out or send you to a reputable 4WD shop. Again , sorry man.

My wife went to buy new tires for a 2001 Neon and they told her she needed special work done to her front end to make sure it would run properly with the tires. They quoted her nearly $1000 for low-end Yokohamas and this "special work". They wouldn't talk to me on the phone when she called to ask wtf was going on. There's nothing wrong with her car. I know because I do all the work to it myself. Asshats. I can't even think of what kind of work would need to be done to her front end to accomodate new tires.

Here's another one:

I was calling around to see how much a local shop would replace my oil pan, oil pump and rear main seal because I wasn't sure if I'd have time to do the work myself, plus I'm nowhere near my house so I don't have any tools. I played ignorant and this one shop told me it would be a minimum of $1325. The oil pan was apparently almost $400, the oil pump $150 and the two gaskets needed were like $100. The rest was labor. They told me the labor was high because it was an 8 hour job. I didn't bother asking where they were getting their parts from for those prices. *sigh*
