Ok so i put on a 2" budget boost lift the other day. The Coil spring retainer on the driver side wont tighten. It will just keep turning. And we broke the rear passenger side top shock mount. And I took it to a shop today they wanted 100 bucks each minimum for the coil retainer and the rear shock mounts.

(I broke the first one so i just left the factory shocks in there with 3 out of the 4 bolts holding the shocks in)

I did the same thing with my back shocks, I just drilled holes through the floor board and put a plate of steel down and run bolts all the way through. As for the oil spring retainer, just go get a bigger self tapping screw and thread it right in there.

Good luck!

You can "Air hammer" the broken bolts from the shock if you know someone with air tools then "PB Buster" the others before trying to remove them. Your gonna need to take the Coil bolt out and re-tap it. Good luck...Tj

drill and tap the coil retainer for a bigger bolt, sounds like the old threads are stripped.

and there are a variety of write-ups on how to get the busted shock bolts out...just do some searching

For the coil, just drill it out, and use a bolt and nut. It should work great. The rear will be harder, but completely repairable. Check XJStyker's build, he had the same issues with his rear shocks. HTH!!

I had a similar issue with my coil spring retainer clip. I took the bolt down and bought a slightly larger self tapping one and just ratcheted it in. Worked like a charm.

+just for future reference, jeep did a tech thing on the back bolts and said that when you want to replace the rear shocks, you should spray the nuts with pb blaster and let it set for a few hours, then just before you try to remove them, you should take a torch and heat them up until the red hot and then try to pull the off. If they still snap off, the have a procedure for fixing said issue. I can;t remember it though. Just look it up on the jeep mag tech section

When my coils spring retainer thread stripped, I moved the retainer to the front, drilled and nut and bolted it in position. Much easier to get access to.

and yes, use your imagination for the rear shock mounts. it's quite easy, really.

tell me about it dude. I broke both side upper bolts last time I put in shocks. That's easy part. Drill em out. I put grade 8 zinc coated nut and bolt. They haven't moved in 4 years.
Just don't brake the bottom bolt like I did yesterday. Now that's a pain in my side.
As for Coil spring retainer. I used these. Way better!

And that shop is rippin you off. Check with someone else. 100 bux to drill out a bolt is B.S.
