I have enjoyed my 01xj for 6 years,,,, well to be honest I have only been able to drive it for 3! Every year in breaks down and it takes a year for me to get to the issue and fix it. But for the last year and a half I have poured over $1000 into this Jeep and it will run for a day or two and die again with the same code p1389. I've done the crankshaft position sensor three times, the auto shut off relays 3 times and I sent out the Jeep to get the PCM done, still nothing. Just because it sat for so long I did the coil pack and plugs. Does anyone have any suggestions other than calling it quits?

P1389 (M) No ASD Relay Output Voltage At PCM An open condition detected in the ASD relay output circuit.
if you have replaced the PCM and all the relays I would start troubleshooting your wiring harness. XJ’s have a history of harness issues.

Amen. I was trying to find a heater core and most of them had a lifetime warranty. That's great, but they were garbage. And guess who doesn't want to replace a heater core annually, even though it'll technically not cost him anything (but his time?

For the crank sensor go to a dealer and buy a genuine mopar sensor. Aftermarket doesnt seem to respond well with 4.0s you may get lucky but the vast majority will guarantee a running and happy dappy engine. And yes they are stealerships but shop around some and you actually can find them at a reasonable price mine was 110 bucks. as for the engine code i would stick with the jeep gods and wizards with their bountiful and deep plethora of knowledge.
