Default I hate my AC

New England mud + AC Compressor clutch = shredded serpentine belt. Anyone know of a good way to eliminate the AC compressor all together and maybe replace it with an alternator on a 2000 Cherokee sport?

I have had to rebuild the clutch assembly twice on the AC Compressor due to environmental soiling. I have seen the builds where they use the compressor for onboard air but it does not eliminate the root problem. A second alternator or idler pulley there would be ideal.

I remember hearing this question a while back, I believe someone said if you can find an XJ without A/C from the factory it should have the dummy pulley on it. But heck, I like your idea, grab an alternator and build a bracket for it, I wouldn't know how to wire it in tho....

give me a minute...

edit: I looked at the routing again... no way without relocating the alternator or adding an idler where the compressor was.

Have you tried calling a dealership and checking to see what was done on one with no A/C?

Also, if you are not running the A/C, then the compressor pulley is just freewheeling with no load.

Go to a jy and find an xj with no a/c. It will have a dummy pulley that bolts on in olace of the compressor. If you search on Naxja I think I've seen a thread there that covers moving the alternator up to there using a bracket from something else. Sorry to be so vague but it was a while ago.
