Hello I have a question that I've been deep-diving through the threads to figure out and haven't found the answer. I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Dash is out and I have removed the old Heater Core + Evaporator Core. When doing so I tried to pull the evaporator temperature sensor out and the copper needle disconnected from the wire. part number 55035503. This blasted part isn't made anymore. I went to a junkyard and tore out the HVAC box on a different 94 Jeep. and the same part, even while being gentle, slightly dislodged (not fully) from the copper needle. When I tested the sensors on my multimeter. It DOES show a reading of like 133 or something, but when I put the needle in ice cold water OR hot water to test that it can read the temperature change BOTH do not move in their reading. according to a youtube video, this means that neither one is doing what it is supposed to. Does anyone know a trick with these thermometers? or if there is a way to bypass it? Am I testing it incorrectly? is there a way to jimmy rig the sensor back together? I'd love any advice before I go to the junkyard again.
This is the Youtube video I used to learn how to test the sensor:
You can also get a resistor and bypass the sensor. These resistors cost like $3 to $5 at hardware or electronic stores. They also usually dont require you to disassemble the dash as you just need access to the plug wiring harness and do not need to remove the sensor.
