I'm guessing the carrier bearings are not as simple? I'm willing to tackle the spider gears. Where can I get the spider gears at a good price?

carrier bearings are easy easy but you need a press.

and find someone doing a front locker and I bet they will just give them to you

The spider gears are supposed to have a beveled shim between the gear and the carrier, maybe the shim is what disintegrated. Pull the pinion pin then you can rotate the carrier to get the gears out and have a look.

I wonder if Autozone or a car place will rent the press?

It's the shaft that supports the spider gears, it's secured with a locking pin in the carrier.

Yeah, those darn factory tricksters. They got me with the "Pre-break all bolts on rear end so person feels like crap" trick.

One more question... or two actually.

Will I need a press to push in the new bearings? Also will I need to readjust the ring once the carrier is out even if I put it back exactly how it was with the same spacers?

I think you had better pay an experienced person to work on that stuff.
