Huge Sudden drop in gas mileage SOLVED
Cant believe people are so skeptical as to what other peoples mileage is. No I dont have one of those on my console. I use the calculator on my phone. My gas gauge is always off, so I go by mileage to determine when I need to fill up.
And again, here is the following logic used:
Fill up #1. Mileage is 22mpg, which is normal. (23.5 was all highway on my way back from St Louis)
Fill up #2 in question: 10mpg. Purchased at a discount super store.
Fill up #3 with non ethanol gas when tank was at approximately 1/8th (or when my mileage read 350 miles since last fill up): 22mpg.
Dont think Ill post on this forum anymore, since there are plenty of people on here who can provide expert advice like, "I call shenanigans" with absolutely no ability to provide any argument to why my solution is flawed.
My Jeep also has more than 300,000 miles. Perhaps you all would like to accuse me of lying about that as well since there is absolutely NO WAY a Jeep with over 300,000 miles could be getting better mileage than yours.

I still think that there was something else in that gas you bought to bring your economy down. I run mostly 10% and I still get at least 19 mpg... Of course, I drive like a grandpa...

There's the answer I was lookin' for......E85, or FlexFuel, the nozzle is yellow. Thank u, thank u very much (Elvis is in the house). LOL
I just drove nearly 600km to bring my 2000 sport home and only used one tank of gas. I filled up with 10% ethanol at a discount staion and am at 90 km with 5/8 tank left. I'll fill with shell next time and update...

talk about bringing a thread back from the dead... lol... 2011?
no joke. and all of the ethanol hate to boot. unfortunate to see all of the misinformation in this thread. for instance: ethanol (alcohol) burns hotter than gasoline...in fact, it is exactly the opposite. i could go on for days, but i’ll stop here.
[QUOTE=nicholaseb;1077629]I think it is just as important to post solutions as it is problems. I recently had a massive drop in mileage for what seemed like no reason.
Thanks for this. I'm up in Canada. My L/100km is normally around 11L which translates to approx. 21mpg. I filled up at a husky station (not my normal) in town just before a cold snap of - 40c. Since a couple days into the cold snap, my mileage went down to between 17 and 25 L/100km (14-9mpg).
I'm really hoping that it is just the fuel situation and not a fuel ratio sensor (newer model of O2 sensor)
Either way. Thanks for some hope.

How long do you sit and warm it up? Fuel mileage will plummet because of that. You're using fuel and not going anywhere. We sit in the parking lot while waiting for the newspapers to be printed and idling for long periods trying to keep warm and my mileage drops down to around 10-9 mpg when I do that. It's better if I wait until my fingers and toes are icecubes, then start it up to warm, but not much better.
