HP 30 question?

So right now i have a LP 30 with 4.56s just picked up a HP 30 last night the guy said i can swap the carrier but i will need a diff set of ring and pinion gears i was just wondering what he ment by that?

The HP gears are cut in a different direction than the LP D30. HPs are referred to as reverse cut.

But the carriers are interchangeable..

YUP, you will be buying new gears but, the good news is the HP D30 will be a definite improvement over your LP D30. Very much worth the cash for the new Ring and Pinion gears.
