Default How to tighten up the steering...

I had a slight (tiny) leak in the upper power steering hose and swapped it out yesterday. $18 at Advance Auto and the part looks like good quality.

Topped off the fluid and went for a spin to pump the air out of the line. Then I noticed something odd...the steering was tighter. I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Also I noticed a good bit of the "wander" that was left in the steering had vanished, too.

I decided that it must be because the old hose had weakened and the pressure as delivered from the pump to the steering box was not consistent, causing some sort of vaugness in the feel and even a feeling of looseness in the steering. Either that or the two ounces of fluid I put in to top it off was way more important to the system than I would have ever imagined.

Regardless...if you've done all your front end parts and still have enough play that you think about "adjusting" the steering box, I'd recommend replacing the high pressure hose first. If that does not cure it, then adjust the box.
