How to tell if mechanic swapped parts
I took my 98 cherokee to the shop for minor repair. He kept my jeep for 3 weeks saying he was short handed. Yet when i would pass by he had other vehicles he was working on and they were in and out. Then I didnt see my jeep there for 3 days. How can i tell if my original parts such as drive shaft and tranny havent been switched? I no they have a number on them, but, I dont no how that links them to the jeep they were put on originally.

I would hope you could tell because your jeep is "fixed"/problem solved", but you could always ask for the old parts, unless there was a core charge then you would have to pay that. In the future you could always mark the parts before you take it in.

Are you worried that he changed good parts that were not broken with older parts from another car or even JY? Interesting thought and I suppose it is possible but it is really hard to mark every part on the car before taking it to a mechanic? I'm sure the major components like engine, tranny, transfer case match the VIN. Too much paranoia may be?

I would find another mechanic ASAP. Nothing, not even an engine swap, should take three weeks. What was the original problem you brought it in for and did it get resolved?

I had to replace alternator, shocks, replace seal where harmonic balancer is, and replace fuel tank seal. When I got my jeep back i noticed one of the electricial connectors on alternator was just hanging. He hadnt even loosened the nut to put the connector on. My front splash guard that protect my lights n stuff is missing and so is all 4 wheel well splash guards. And im not sure he replaced the fuel tank seal.

I took it in 2 have alternator replaced, replace harmonic balancer seal, replace fuel tank seal, and shocks replaced. When i picked up my jeep I noticed one electrical connector on alternator hadnt been connected. The front splash guard that protects headlights is missing and all 4 wheel well splash guards are missing. Makes a rattling noise where something is loose and now when i put it in reverse it starts like hopping i guess and i have to push in clutch and go a lit and then push n clutch n go. Also the day I picked it up, his dad was there and said 3 or 4 people had asked if my jeep was 4 sale. Said they liked it because it was a 5 speed. How many people take there cars 2 be fixed and start looking in other vehicles there? Maybe I am paranoid, but something doesnt seem right at all.

People are gonna notice its a five speed because there more rare but I would go back and complain about the missing parts and ask about the problem with reverse
