Default How to swap Dana 35 for 8.25

I have a 91 Jeep cherokee and the rear axle went out. I ordered a Dana 35 off ebay and they sent me a Chrysler 8.25. Is it possible to put the 8.25 on without any modifications? Besides buying new U-bolts.

Woo buddy, you got lucky.

While you have it all apart, might as well get longer brake lines and stuff...

it's a direct swap. i am in the process of building my 8.25 and in a few weeks will be doing the install. the 8.25 is from an xj that whats make it a direct swap. if you have a 97+ i believe its a 29 spline. Much better than the 35. How much did u pay for the 35 which ended up being the 8.25?

heres the thing, if you have no lift your driveshaft will be a bit to long, however this axle is MUCH better than that weak d35

Once I received the first axle I noticed it was the wrong one and contacted the seller. The seller then sent out another axle which also was a 8.25. So I have $250 total in (2) 8.25 axles. I have no lift so if I put the 8.25 on I'll have to get a different driveshaft?

Dang, you are freakin' lucky, you should clean up and sell the other one, you might even make your money back.

Just go to the junk yard and pull a rear shaft from a xj with a 8.25. Bring your old one they might even give u a core for it.

Would there be different lengths of drive shafts used with the 8.25 like a 2.5l vs. 4.0l or different transfer case or anything?

well i am sitting at 6.5" right now, and i thought that it was too close to call for me. the drive shaft slip was almost at the bar minimum to being against the tailshaft, so imo i think that you would need the 8.25 driveshaft
