Default How to remove this dash piece? '96

Hey all,
I'm in the process of repainting my interior (blue) but I can't get this one piece out (tan) I took the best pictures the best I could in order to point out the part. Does anyone know if this actually comes out?

the haynes manual shows where all the screws are... there are some vertical screws up under the windshield, maybe under the defrost cowl above the dash, think a stubby screwdriver would help there. There are some sideways ones down below (gotta take the lower dash panel off to see them, they're up in there) that you loosen and then it pivots out towards the seat if I remember correctly. There may be some screws behind the trim, kinda by the gauge cluster too, I forget. It definitely has a lot of screws, but it definitely comes out!

Not to hijack but what are you using to paint the dash and trim? How does it hold up? Scratch easy?

Never taken one like that apart, but Id guess the kick panel under the steering wheel has to come out, then some of the fascia around the vents, stereo, gauges. Then probably that piece. Just start taking things off one at a time, its a dash, not rocket appliances.

My '99 is quite different, but thats how its done. Haynes manual should show how its done for your year. Im almost positive it does.

My Haynes isn't very descriptive but I will double check it. It's the only piece of the dash that is vinyl and NOT plastic that's why I'm wondering if it doesn't come out.

I used Dupli-Color Vinyl and Carpet paint and did 3 thin coats (on the doors as well as you can see, it's been about month since I've done it and it's really nice, everyone's very impressed by it and in my opinion if you tape everything off properly it looks new!

Tape it off and paint it.

Quicker & easier.

You would probably scratch the h*** out of it trying to get it back in.

That's what I was thinking I'd probably do were I in your shoes. It looks like a real PITA to get out, and I've done pretty much everything around it and it wasn't fun. I'd pull stuff off around it and just tape/paint it in place!

If you locate the write up for replacing the AC evaporator, you'll see how the entire dash comes out.

If it were me I would tape as much as possible and paint it in place.

The paint is in a spray can, and the windshield is BIG time in the way to try to be painting the top face of it, I'd have to be <1inch away from the surface and 8 inch is preferable.
