How is the pump in the transmission powered?

How is the pump in the transmission powered?
Ok so I still can't get my tranny to go into gear. I pulled the return cooling line to see if it was even pumping and it wasn't so my pump is either shot or not getting power. I replaced the factory wiring harness with the radesign gated shifter and the only wires connected are for the torque converter, and the shift solenoids. Do I need to power the pump also?
