Default How much R134a refrigarant is supposed to be in my 2000 XJ?

I think my system is low and my compressor says it uses 134a so I bought a recharge kit at O'Riley that has a guage on it so I need to know the procedure, which port (I see two behind the compressor and one almost above), and how much is supposed to be in there. I really appreciate input.

There should be a sticker under the hood stating how much R134 is required. The service ports are different sizes, so you can't screw that part up.

There is a factory sticker that says it was charged from the factory with 1.25lbs but nothing about PSI and that is what my 134a recharge kit has on the gauge.

The pressure of the system is not a fixed thing, it depends on temperature. The high side pressure should be around ambient temperature times two plus or minus 10%. If is 100 degrees outside, the high side pressure should be around 220 psi or higher. I suggest not messing with the A/C if you're not sure what you are doing.

Again, it all depends on the temperature and a few other factors as to what the low side and high side pressures will be. If your system needs to be charged, you have a leak some place in the system. The refridgerant never wears out, so you should never have to add to it as long as there are no leaks. You'll only **** money away by throwing refridgerant in a system that may be full of air and moisture. I say take it to a shop and have them look at it if the A/C is not blowing cold.

No definitive answer. All depends on what has caused the leak, how long has it been leaking, and how many people have to tried to fix it. Best solution unless you are cerified in A/C repair procedures, take it to a pro.
